Meet the Alvarez Family
The Alvarez parents immigrated to the United States in the early '90s and shared their culture with their children throughout their upbringing but never documented it, making traditions easy to forget or scattered across mediums. Traditions like recipes, festive customs, folktales were shared informally from grandparents to parents to kids but there was no centralised place to record, access or share it.
When the eldest child leaves for college, he asks his mom to teach him how to make Arepas, his favorite Venezuelan meal. A few weeks later, he struggles to remember the recipe and has to call his mom again for guidance.
